Me – How was your workout?
Him – Ummm…half-ass.
Me – You should never half-ass anything.
Him – You’re right. Full-ass everything!
Me – Exactly!
His words – not mine! I am sure there was more to his response (because there always is 😉), he knew not giving his all in the gym that day was not beneficial to his mind or body. And he would not achieve the results he desired with a half-ass workout.
Just do it half-ass. Said no one ever! Putting mediocre effort into anything will produce mediocre results. Period. Doesn’t matter if it’s your career, your hobbies, your children, your looks, or your home. Everything you do should be done with your best effort.
Give life 100% and you’ll reap 100% of the benefits. But give life 50% and you’ll still reap benefits, but they will only be half of what is possible for you to receive or accomplish. You must give it your all to get it all. There are no short cuts. If you give it your best, there’s nothing left to do or anymore you could give. And you get to live with complete satisfaction in all things.
But if you half-ass it, you produce less than desirable results, you make mistakes, you take too long, make poor decisions, prolong desired outcomes, or never get there at all. Whereas, when you give it your best – you get the best results. And there’s no room for regret. You left it all out there and know with 100% confidence you couldn’t give more. That’s winning, regardless of the outcome. And that’s the definition of success.
Show up – Do well – Go forward with satisfaction.
Giving 100% should not be confused with perfection because no one is perfect. But everyone can do their best. And honestly, why would you ever want to do less than your best? If you do the best, you can with the information you have, then no one can ever fault you for not giving your best or being your best. And there is nothing better than your best.
If you don’t want to do it, then don’t do it. But if you are going to do it, then do it and give it everything you have. Give it 100% – always. Live with the all-in mentality towards all things. Be the best version of yourself by always giving life all you have to give.
